Nova Cerekev: Hotels and Accommodation

The Nová Cerekev Synagogue was built in 1855 in the Neo-Romanesque style with Oriental elements. It is considered the only surviving synagogue of its kind in Central Europe; visitors can see the permanent exhibition “Synagogue Architecture in the Czech Lands” there.

Culture and History

The railway and pumping-station complex in Nová Cerekev was built in the 1880s based on a design by the architect Friedrich Setz. It consists of a water tower and a separate pumping station that supplied steam locomotives with water.

The Church of Saint Thomas Becket of Canterbury in Nová Cerekev was built between 1750 and 1760 in the Baroque style. It stands on the site of an earlier Gothic church building, of which only the tower remains. The old Jewish cemetery in Nová Cerekev was established before 1690; the oldest gravestone dates from 1692.

In the Stanovice district of the municipality of Nová Cerekev, Pachtův špejchar currently houses an agricultural museum. The building is listed as a cultural monument, has two floors, dates from the 16th century, and features sgraffito façades. Original farmsteads have been preserved around a circular village square in the same district.

Nature

The Rašelinná louka u Proseče-Obořiště natural monument is located in the Vysočina Region, in the Pelhřimov District, within the municipality of Nová Cerekev, in the cadastral areas of Částkovice and Myslov. It protects spring mires, spring areas, wet meadows, and marsh meadows with specially protected and characteristic species.

The Havlíčkův oak is at least 300 years old and has a trunk circumference of 650 centimetres. It grows in the heritage-listed chateau park of Proseč-Obořiště, a district of the municipality of Nová Cerekev.

Cycling Route

The “Around the Mill to the Synagogue” route is suitable for mountain bikes in the field. It leads through nature and small villages to the unique Jewish synagogue in Nová Cerekev.
