Culture and History

At the eastern edge of Ježov stands the Gothic Church of Saint Lucy. It belongs to the Church of Saint Lucy complex, which also includes a surrounding wall with a gate, a wooden bell tower, and a cemetery. The complex is a state-protected immovable cultural monument. Two bells have survived to this day in the wooden bell tower. A 300-year-old small-leaved lime tree stands above the cast-iron cross by the church.

Ježov was first mentioned in 1352 as Gezov. The name Ježov is derived from the name of its first owner, Jež, and means “Jež’s farmstead.”

Landscape and Location

Ježov is part of the Křemešnická vrchovina, which lies in the extensive Českomoravská vrchovina Highlands. The Švihov (Želivka) nature site also includes the cadastral territory of Ježov nad Želivkou. Ježov lies at the end of Road III/13035.

A football tournament takes place in Ježov every year in July.
