Hiking and Cycling

The Obrataňské okruhy are a traditional Easter hiking event. They comprise circular routes of 10 km, 20 km and 35 km, which begin and end in Obrataň. The area around Obrataň is suitable for hiking and cycling, as well as cross-country skiing in winter.

Routes and Transport

The narrow-gauge railway from Obrataň to Jindřichův Hradec, built in 1906, is 46 km long and has a gauge of 760 mm. The narrow-gauge railway is a tourist attraction and also provides regular transport services. In the immediate vicinity of Obrataň, the narrow-gauge railway has a romantically situated forest stop at Sudkův Důl railway station.

Cycle Route 1185 from Černovice to Pacov passes through Obrataň. The Museum of Insulators and Lightning Conductors is located in a former mill in the settlement of Dvořiště, 2.5 km from Obrataň, and lies along Cycle Route 1185.

Culture and History

The single-nave Early Gothic Church of St Peter and Paul in Obrataň dates from the late 13th century. It was formerly called the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary; it was founded in 1384 on a hill in the middle of the village square. The T. G. Masaryk monument, created by the Tábor sculptor Jan Vítězslav Dušek, stands near the church.

Obrataň is also home to a small Neoclassical chapel with a bell turret, built around 1800. The wooden granary in Obrataň dates from the late 18th century and is one of the last surviving buildings of the region’s timber-framed vernacular architecture.

Nature

The U Bezděčína natural monument lies in the cadastral area of Obrataň and protects a spring structure and a stream floodplain with specially protected species. In the immediate vicinity of Obrataň, the Josafatské Valley stretches for approximately 8 km along the Bělá Stream and connects Sudkův Důl, Bezděčín and Údolí. There, the ruins of the small 14th-century Údolský hrádek fortress rise above a pond.

The Rašeliniště u Vintířova natural monument protects a complex of spring, peat bog, wet meadow and purple moor-grass meadow communities with woody plants and specially protected species.
