Culture and History

The protected ensemble of St. Michael’s Church comprises the church, the surrounding wall of the former cemetery and a gate. The church originated as a Gothic building from the early 14th century, was rebuilt in the Renaissance style in the 16th century and altered after fires in 1677, 1760 and 1842. A pilgrimage takes place at St. Michael’s Church on the Sunday around 29 September.

The Chapel of St. Catherine in Želetava is an immovable cultural monument. The single-nave, rectangular building has a decorated entrance façade, a niche with a statue of St. Catherine, a roof turret and a gabled roof covered with plain clay tiles.

The Marian Column stands on Svornosti Square in Želetava and is surrounded on three sides by a fountain with a stone edging. The present-day fountain next to the Marian Column was built in 1844 after an older fountain dating from 1577 had been relocated.
