Culture and History

The UNESCO site in Třebíč within Třebíč District comprises the Jewish Quarter, the Jewish Cemetery and the Basilica of St Procopius. The Jewish Quarter preserves its original street plan and characteristic spatial layout. Historical social functions have also been preserved there, including synagogues and schools. The historic Jewish cemetery in Třebíč contains around 4,000 gravestones. The Basilica of St Procopius was built in the early 13th century as part of a Benedictine monastery.

The cultural diversity also includes the museum’s mineralogical exhibition, with a collection of Moravian moldavites described as unique in Europe. The Kralice Bible Memorial permanently presents the art of printing and the printing works of the Unity of the Brethren in Kralice. The Kralice Bible is described as the first Czech Bible translation made from the original languages rather than via the Latin Vulgate. The memorial is located next to the former fortress, where a secret printing works of the Bohemian Brethren operated from 1578 to 1620. The Letecké muzeum Koněšín is dedicated to the history of Czechoslovak and Czech aviation.

The surrounding area of Třebíč District also includes Jaroměřice nad Rokytnou, with a Baroque chateau complex comprising the Church of St Margaret and a chateau garden.

Nature and Water

In the surrounding area of Třebíč District, the Mohelno Serpentine Steppe has a dry, warm local climate influenced by serpentinite, low precipitation and solar radiation. The Dalešice Dam has a 100-metre-high embankment dam, described as the highest embankment dam in the Czech Republic. The valley of the Rokytná River towards Příštpo is designated as a nature park for excursions and walks.

On Dalešice Reservoir, the Horácko excursion boat carries bicycles. The combination of waterside scenery and cycling is also evident on the Technical Monuments cycling route, whose stops include the Dalešice Brewery exhibition and Wilsonova skála.

Orientation and Routes

A free tourist map of the Třebíčsko region is distributed at information centres in Třebíč and the surrounding area, at selected hotels and guesthouses, and at major tourist attractions. The map provides a concise overview of hiking and cycling routes and marks the most important tourist attractions, natural attractions and monuments.

Třebíčsko has direct express train connections to Brno and České Budějovice. From Prague, connections require a change in Havlíčkův Brod or Jihlava. The excursion “Vlakem a pěšky do divočiny Třebíč – Číchov” can be combined with a train journey from Třebíč and the return journey by train from Bransouze.

Regional Cuisine

Dalešice Brewery is associated with the Czech film “Postřižiny”, which was filmed there in 1980. In its visitor complex, it offers beer and restaurant cuisine. Dalešice beers are brewed without filtration or pasteurisation using a traditional process and four ingredients.
