Hotels in Zlobice: Church, Cultural Heritage and Landscape

Zlobice combines visible sacred buildings, a multilayered local history, and a landscape that extends into a protected area of European significance. At its centre is the Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius, built between 1897 and 1899 according to a design by the architect Leodegard Slovák from Kroměříž. The associated parish house is one of the landmarks of Zlobice.

Culture and History

Several stone crosses and other small sacred monuments stand within the municipality. Its history also reaches far back. Archaeological finds provide evidence of settlement in the municipal area as early as the Neolithic, as well as during the Bronze and Iron Ages. In Hliník, a vessel from the Lusatian culture was unearthed at a depth of approximately one metre. Later traces of the local history include the Solanský Mill, which stood next to the parish house from 1916 and had a small power plant. Zlobice is also home to a statue of Our Lady of Lourdes and a wooden cross.

Landscape and Waterways

Most of the built-up area of Zlobice lies on gently sloping terrain in the Litenčická pahorkatina hills. The particularly protected area of European significance known as Troják is located in the southwestern part of the municipality. The Věžecký potok flows through the built-up area and has several right-bank tributaries.

Roads Through the Village

The main road runs from Kroměříž through Zlobice towards Věžky and onwards to Morkovice. A crossroad leads through Zlobice towards Popovice.

Traditions and Memorial Sites

The preserved rural tradition includes the Ferdyšova theatre company. It was established in 1989 in Bojanovice to preserve rural traditions. The company developed a village theatre and staged numerous plays and fairy tales at the inn in Bojanovice, based on original or adapted scripts. On Větrák Hill, which separates Bojanovice from Zlobice, stands a memorial to those who fell in the First World War, erected in 1920. It is crowned by a statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. For 1 May, the traditional raising of the maypole was scheduled to take place from 18:00 at the festival grounds in Zlobice.
