Slavkov: Hotels, Nature and Folklore
Slavkov is located in the Bílé Karpaty Protected Landscape Area. Nature, trails, memorial sites and regional events offer different thematic approaches to the places and references mentioned here.
Nature
The Dolnoněmčanské louky Nature Reserve is located in the cadastral territory of Slavkov u Uherského Brodu. It protects a landscape-rich area with important plant and animal communities. Further botanical features can be found in the Porážky National Nature Reserve, which is home to the only known site in all of Central Europe of the robust lousewort. The Kolo Nature Reserve has species-rich wetland vegetation and a significant population of the flesh-coloured orchid. The highly endangered snake's garlic also grows in Slavkovský háj.
Trails
The “Kronika slavkovské krajiny” educational trail comprises ten stops and begins in front of the Charitní dům sv. Petra a Pavla. Another way to cross the landscape in the context of several places is provided by the Lucká hledačka. It comprises two routes jointly prepared by the town of Hluk and the municipalities of Slavkov and Dolní Němčí. Route A leads from Horní Němčí via Slavkov to Dolní Němčí.
The summit of Velká Javořina can be reached from Slavkov by bicycle and on foot. The Lucké pole memorial site can likewise be reached from Slavkov via newly established cycling paths. This means that various means of transport to the destinations mentioned are explicitly connected with the locality.
At the request of tourists and nature enthusiasts in the region, ČSOP Pantoflíček organizes nature excursions several times a year. Requests for these excursions are particularly frequent during the orchid-blossom season. Guided visits to some nature reserves are also possible from Slavkov.
Culture and History
A bell tower dating from 1927 stands in the centre of Slavkov. It was built on the site of an earlier wooden bell tower. Another memorial site is located in the Horní pole area: the memorial pear tree has stood there for more than 300 years on the border between Horní Němčí and Slavkov. In 2009, it was designated a memorial tree by the administration of the Bílé Karpaty Protected Landscape Area.
Folklorní den takes place in August of every even-numbered year. The event presents traditional costumes, folklore ensembles from the Czech Republic and Slovakia, as well as a traditional crafts fair.
The Lucké pole landscape is also associated with a historical event. The troops of the Bohemian prince Vladislav I and the Hungarian king Štěpán II met there; under unclear circumstances, a clash eventually took place.
For a practical review of a hotel in Slavkov, you can view and compare offers or offer pages, where such pages are available. Before booking, the respective offer page can be used to check the property's exact location, the type of accommodation offered and the number of people the occupancy applies to. Included services, individual price components, and the booking and cancellation conditions should likewise be transparent. Especially when comparing with a focus on price, it makes sense to examine these fields separately and not infer the characteristics of an individual property from general information about the locality.
