Komárov: Churches, Trails and Landscape

Culture

Komárov has a chapel of Saint Anthony of Padua, which belongs to the Pohořelice parish. Services are still held in this chapel today. This should be distinguished from the Church of Saint Anthony of Padua: it was built between 1937 and 1940 by Alois Dostál from Napajedla. The two religious sites thus represent different aspects of the local character, from continued religious use to the architectural history of the 20th century.

Another historical trace leads to the school building. It was built in 1886–1887 and now serves as a kindergarten. The building also contains a memorial plaque bearing the names of two resistance fighters. They were shot on 27 April 1945 at Kalvárie in Napajedla. Thus, present-day use and local remembrance come together in the same building.

Trails

A yellow-marked hiking trail from Napajedla to Malenovice passes through the northern tip of Komárov’s cadastral area. In addition, the Stezky napajedelských emirátů trail network comprises around 70 kilometres of marked routes and connects Napajedla with the surrounding municipalities, including Komárov. The routes are intended for hikers and mountain bikers. Information boards along the trails point out places of interest.

Nature and Landscape

One of the prominent natural features is Dub u Komárova. It is a pedunculate oak (Quercus robur) with a trunk circumference of more than 435 centimetres. Dub u Komárova is a protected memorial tree in the Czech Republic. The pedunculate oak is approximately 24 metres tall.

Two fish-farming ponds lie in the valley of the Burava stream, approximately 700 metres northwest of Komárov. Rybník Žlébek is one of two ponds near Komárov in the Burava stream valley. The larger Rybník Žlébek has a small island and measures approximately 110 × 60 metres. The ponds near Komárov are lined with dense growth of willows and alders.

Above Komárov there is a viewpoint overlooking the Chřiby Hills.
