Slopné – Hotels, Nature and the Josefa-Váni Educational Trail

Slopné lies in the valley of the Horní Olšava stream. The hilly landscape is largely forested and comprises a mosaic structure of woods, fields and meadows. The southern part of Slopné belongs to the Bílé Karpaty Protected Landscape Area, while the northern part of the cadastral area lies in the Vizovické vrchy Nature Park. Thus, different protected landscape areas meet within the village and its cadastral area.

Nature and Landscape

The landscape around Slopné features naturally guided paths and numerous views across the countryside. One of the named natural features is Čertovo kopyto, a remarkable natural phenomenon in Slopné. The combination of woods, fields and meadows remains just as visible as the forested, hilly character of the village. The Horní Olšava stream forms the valley in which Slopné lies.

Paths and Routes

The Josefa-Váni Educational Trail connects Slopné and Vizovice and is 5 km long. It follows a yellow-marked route from Slopné via Klokočí to Vizovice. The starting point of the Josefa-Váni Educational Trail in Slopné can be reached by car or bus. After the 5 km of the Josefa-Váni Educational Trail, it is another 3.5 km to the centre of Vizovice.

Church, Pilgrimages and Traditions

The Rochus Church in Slopné was consecrated on 14 July 1996 by Olomouc Archbishop Jan Graubner. As a filial church, it belongs to the Újezd parish. The small pilgrimage takes place in Slopné every year on the second Sunday in July, marking the anniversary of the consecration of the new church. The main pilgrimage takes place on the third Sunday in August for the Feast of Saint Roch.

The local sacred landscape also includes the stone Chapel of Saint Roch, which was built or completed in 1824. A roller mill from the 19th century has been preserved in Slopné as a technical monument. The roller mill was restored in 1991 and continues to operate as a commercial mill. Ore was mined in Rudovka below Klokočí.

Traditional customs also form part of the village’s cultural character. Every year, Slopné holds a carnival masquerade procession, known today as Fašanky and formerly as Babkovníci. The Easter customs of Klepačka and Mrskačka have also been preserved.

Winter at the Ski Lift

The ski slope at Slopné’s ski lift is approximately 400 m long and has an elevation difference of 90 m. Thanks to artificial lighting, skiing is also possible in the evening at Slopné’s ski lift.
