Křekov between Chapel History and Landscape

In Křekov, the historical trail begins at the Hložecká Chapel of the Virgin Mary, Queen of Peace. It was built in 1953 on the site of a Baroque chapel. Those exploring the history of the village can distinguish here between the present building and the site of its older chapel.

Culture

The present-day Hložecká Chapel commemorates the rescue of the inhabitants during the Tatar raid of 1663. On the village square in Křekov stands the sandstone cross, a monument of local significance dating from 1906. As part of a project, two pairs of traditional festive costumes from the second half of the 19th century were made in Křekov.

A natural stream channel with riparian vegetation, wooded slopes and a valley meadow form a landscape of high scenic value. There is also a rich population of the white-flowered crocus (Crocus albiflorus).

The landscape therefore contains several specific forms side by side: the valley of the Křekovský Stream, the northern foot of 642-metre-high Vysoká, and the combination of stream channel, riparian vegetation, wooded slopes and valley meadow. The white-flowered crocus adds an independent natural aspect to these geographical and landscape features.
