Hotels in Hostišová between Culture and Countryside

Hostišová can be discovered through tangible evidence of its history, festivals and landscape. The settlement was first mentioned in writing in 1397. The stone Baroque Cross “Barokní kříž”, made of coarse-grained sandstone, was erected by Jakub Polášek in 1756 and is listed under number 1909 in the Register of Cultural Monuments of the Czech Republic.

Culture

Another defining structure is the chapel “Kaple Navštívení Panny Marie”, which was built in 1869 on the site of an earlier bell tower. Below the chapel there is a workout area and a children’s playground. The municipality’s memorial sites also refer to different historical periods: The “Památník Clay - Eva” memorial was unveiled on 6 May 2005. The Clay parachute group parachuted into the Trnovec area, in the cadastral territory of the municipality of Hostišová, on the night of 12–13 April 1944. The “Památník partyzána Metoděje Ponížila” memorial commemorates the partisan Metoděj Ponížil, who fell during the liberation on 5 May 1945 at the age of 29.

Events and Trails

Several regular events are part of Hostišová’s annual calendar. At the carnival celebration, a masked procession led by a bear takes place on the last Saturday before Ash Wednesday. Every New Year’s Day, there is a climb up the nearby Hřeben Hill. The hill lies 399 m above sea level; participants receive their own New Year’s stamp. The annual Hody festival of Hostišová, called “Náš svátek”, is always celebrated on 2 July.

The chapel is also associated with recurring events. Masses are held there every year on 2 May, 2 July and 2 September. The Mass on 2 July is the local pilgrimage, “Náš svátek”. Above Hostišová, the Stations of the Cross “Křížová cesta” were ceremonially opened on 26 September 2009.

Countryside

In the area around present-day Hostišová, the landscape contains archaeological settlement traces from all periods since the Old Stone Age. Palaeolithic finds have been dated to around 10,000 BC. Two trees of approximately the same age stand in the vicinity of Hostišová, each associated with its own story. In the fields above Hostišová stands a Common Pear (Pyrus communis) approximately 250 years old, with a trunk circumference of 370 cm.

In the centre of the municipality, an English Oak (Quercus robur) grows on the grounds of a locksmith’s workshop, with a trunk circumference of 270 cm. It is connected with the history of the Vojáček family. During the First Republic, celebrations were held in their garden, with state flags hung from the oak. The observation tower is 14 m high, is made of natural materials such as stone and wood, and has a circular viewing platform at a height of 11 m.
