The Khashmi microzone is described as having a climate ranging from dry subtropical to moderately humid transitional conditions. It also has brown carbonate soils and the characteristic properties of the Saperavi grape variety.

Chateau Khashmi is a family wine cellar in Khashmi. Its wines are made in qvevri using traditional Kakhetian methods and are described as unfiltered and 100 % natural. Khashmi Saperavi is offered there as a dry red, unfiltered qvevri wine.

Tedo Papa Cellar produces Khashmi Saperavi and Rkatsiteli from its own vineyards, using traditional Kakhetian methods. The cellar dates back to the 18th century, preserves old objects, and was formerly used by Prince Cholokashvili as an auxiliary wine cellar. At Tedo Papa Cellar, visitors can taste Khashmi Saperavi and eat traditional Georgian dishes made from natural products.

Culture and History

Ten kilometers from Khashmi stands a Trinity Church dating from the late 5th or early 6th century, formerly known as Katsareti Trinity.

The Mother-of-God complex is located near Khashmi. Its church dates from the 14th or 15th century and is known for its frescoes. The surviving structures include surrounding walls, towers, a hall, and auxiliary buildings. An ancient caravan route once ran through the location of the complex.

To reach the complex near Khashmi, the Lafian khevi must be crossed. The river is usually dry; winter is suggested as the easiest time to cross.
