Wine and Cuisine

Shaverge offers tastings of its wines as well as master classes on bread baking and preparing khinkali. During the grape harvest, tourists may pick grapes in Shaverge’s vineyards and press them in a wine press. Shaverge also produces Kvevari wines known as Saferavi, Rkatsiteli, and Kisi, using the traditional Georgian method. In its cellar, Shaverge preserves both new and two-hundred-year-old vessels.

Jobava Winery is located in Shilda within the Kindzmarauli microzone. Its packages include guided tours of the vineyards and cellar as well as wine and chacha tastings. Culture and History

The Ghvtaebis Church in Shilda is a late medieval hall church built with alternating layers of river stone and brick, and is described as part of Kakheti’s cultural heritage. The church is also described as easily accessible, with no physical exertion required; 30–60 minutes is considered sufficient to visit the site.

Shilda Fortress stands on the left bank of the Chelti River. According to local tradition, it belonged to the Vakhvakhishvili family and was built between the mid- and late 18th century. The documented design of the fortress includes cylindrical corner towers as well as rectangular towers at the centers of its southern and western walls.
