Culture and History

Vardisubani is first mentioned in Georgian historical sources in the 14th century. The fortified residential complex of Vardisubani is a preserved late medieval residential fortress with a surrounding defensive wall, a multi-level stone tower, and integrated living areas; it was built in the 17th and 18th centuries.

The White George Basilica is an architectural monument dating from the sixth or seventh century. The White George (Dekanozuri) Church is classified as an immovable cultural monument. It is a three-church basilica with eastern side chambers and was built from large river stones arranged in regular courses. Its corners are made of shirimi stone. The central vault and the southern part of the apse have collapsed. Of the stone enclosure surrounding the White George (Dekanozuri) Church, only the southern and western sections remain. The church has a western ambulatory and was repaired in the 16th century.
