Jvari: Hotels and accommodations

The Enguri Hydroelectric Power Plant was built in the narrow canyon of the Enguri River in the city of Jvari. The Enguri HPP comprises a cascade of hydroelectric power plants; the complex also includes around 400 tunnels and canals. Geographical location

The Enguri Arch Dam has been in operation since 1978 and is 271.5 meters high. It is located in the landscape of northwestern Georgia. The longest tunnel or canal of the Enguri HPP is approximately 15 kilometers long. The Enguri Hydroelectric Power Plant complex stretches from the city of Jvari to the Black Sea.

Culture and history

In 2015, the Enguri Arch Dam was granted the status of industrial heritage of national significance. In 2022, the Enguri Dam was included in the European Route of Industrial Heritage.

Jvari is also home to the 15th-century Omune Fortress, known as Omunes Jikha. Omune Fortress is a three-story square structure.

Tours

The Enguri attraction offers a walking tour as well as a short tour and a full tour. The walking tour includes views of the Enguri Dam from a viewing platform. Visitors can explore the facilities of the Enguri Arch Dam and learn how energy is generated using hydropower.

The short tour uses a bus; guide services are also available in Georgian and English. The full tour includes a tunnel on level 315.

Water and landscape

The Enguri (Jvari) Reservoir is a nearby attraction connected with Jvari. It is 30 kilometers long, and Lake Jvari is 226 meters deep.

The forests around the Jvari Reservoir are associated with tourism in the municipality of Tsalenjikha. The right bank of the Jvari Reservoir is connected with the limestone massif near Potskho in the municipality of Tsalenjikha.
