Nature

A marked 19-kilometre trekking route begins in the centre of Mestia and leads to the Chalaad Glacier in 6–8 hours. It reaches an altitude of 1,920 metres and offers views of the Chalaad icefall and glacial deposits. Chalaad is described as a glacier whose tongue extends below 2,000 metres down to the tree line.

The Mestia–Zuruldi Ridge route is a 14-kilometre trekking or horseback-riding route with a cable-car option. At the mountain station, there is a viewpoint with binoculars; from there, the expansive views stretch across Mestia, Ushba, Chatin, Tetnuldi and other peaks of the Caucasus. A marked 15.6-kilometre trekking or horseback-riding route from the centre of Mestia leads in about eight hours to the Koruldi Lakes at an altitude of 2,740 metres. It passes through alpine meadows with views towards the Svaneti Range, Ushba and Mount Bzhedukh.

Culture

Mestia has 45 surviving Svan defensive towers, described as 24-metre-high fortifications with characteristic Svan battlements. The streets also contain medieval fortifications, churches and buildings, including the Matskhovari Church, the Seti Archangel Church and the Pusti Church.

The Art and Culture Center in Mestia presents local culture through Svan music and dance.

Winter

Hatsvali Resort is described as being eight kilometres from Mestia, while Tetnuldi Resort is 15 kilometres away. The two resorts are associated with skiing, snowboarding, ski touring, heli-skiing, paragliding and horseback riding.
