Sugdidi: Hotels and accommodations

Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti has two regional centers, Zugdidi and Mestia; the region combines historic Georgian architecture, expansive nature, and local cuisine. The Dadiani Palace complex is located in the center of Zugdidi.

Culture

The Dadiani Palace was the residence of the Mingrelian rulers, the Dadianis. At the same time, it was one of the first European-style palaces built in the historic region of Odishi. Niko’s Palace is a two-story building with a large ballroom, while the Dadiani Court Church was built between 1825 and 1830.

The Samegrelo Museum in Zugdidi opened on May 1, 1921, in the royal palace. The archaeological collection preserves up to 10,000 objects of Colchian material culture from the Late Bronze Age and the Early Iron Age. The museum in the two Dadiani palaces contains more than 44,475 ancient objects, including a personal item belonging to Napoleon and one of his death masks.

Nature

A botanical garden was established around the Dadiani Palace in 1840. The Zugdidi Botanical Garden was designed in the French style. The gardens cover 67 hectares and contain unique plants. Vlakernoba is celebrated every year on July 15 in the Dadiani Palace complex.
