Mezőzombor: Wine, Views and History

The Disznókő winery is located in the municipality of Mezőzombor. It covers 107 hectares of vineyards across a site of around 150 hectares. The Filagória viewpoint is easy to reach from the winery building and from the Sárga Borház car park; from there, you can enjoy a 360-degree panorama over the vineyards.

The present-day Reformed church building was constructed between 1948 and 1950. A 18-metre-high tower stands in front of its east façade. Another local attraction is MiniaTour, a model railway exhibition with more than 30 scenes, 40 push buttons and two joysticks.

A wine tasting combines several stops: the guided tour takes you through the vineyards, winery and cellars, followed by a tasting in the historic cellar. The programme lasts 1 to 1.5 hours. The Filagória Pavilion also makes the viewpoint a destination with its own cultural appeal. The Neoclassical pavilion, with its four columns, was built by the Lónyay family in the 18th century. Two starting points are provided to help you find your way—the winery building and the Sárga Borház car park. From either starting point, you can reach the viewpoint and its panorama over the vineyards.

The church’s history extends beyond the present-day building. In 1732, the earlier Reformed church was in ruins. A new building, erected in 1806, burned down around 1823 and was rebuilt in 1828–29. The church built in 1911 was blown up by retreating German troops on 21 November 1944. The present-day building was constructed between 1948 and 1950. It represents the latest phase in the church’s construction history; the 18-metre-high tower stands in front of its east façade.
