Otters have appeared several times along its shores; it is also a popular destination for amateur and professional photographers, as well as day-trippers. There is a boat harbour and a sailing harbour on its southern and western sides.

The Roman Catholic church in Balatonberény has medieval origins and is considered a notable sight by specialists and interested visitors alike. In the church garden stands a statue of Saint Vendel, patron saint of shepherds and farmers, erected in 1793 in fulfilment of a vow. There is also a Lourdes grotto in the northern part of the garden: Halász Zoltánné had it built in fulfilment of a vow to the Virgin Mary, it was designed by Dragonits Tamás, and it was consecrated in 1993. These places complement the beach and nature attractions with a specific cultural and historical dimension.
