History and Culture

Csabrendek is described as a settlement with multiple cores, formed through the merger of the former settlements of Csab and Rendek. The central part corresponds to the old village of Rendek.

The church ruins of Rendek stand at the eastern foot of the settlement’s church hill. Parts of the foundations have survived; other parts were incorporated into a Baroque church building.

The Csabi (Alcsabi) church ruins lie southeast of the town near Csáb puszta. The settlement is connected with the Csabi line, whose village was first mentioned in 1233.

Rendek was probably a market town from the 14th century and was the seat of a district court of Zala County until 1482. The town was described as a lively weekly market town as well as a regional county and noble centre.
