Abay: Hotels and Accommodations

Anyone wishing to book a hotel in Abay can then continue searching for accommodation. In the square in front of Abay’s House of Culture stands an almost ten-meter-high bronze monument to Abai. The full-figure depiction holds a book in one hand and gazes into the distance.

Culture and History

The square around Abay’s House of Culture was upgraded with repaired fountains and rotundas, renewed paving, lighting, benches, and waste bins. The Literary and Memorial Museum of Abai Kunanbayev has four exhibition halls, including one dedicated to Abay’s early history. The exhibition “Tools of Miners’ Labor: From Past to Present” was also presented there. The Abai Kunanbayev City Museum displays photographs of the settlement’s first social institutions.

The development of the Churubay-Nura coal district began in 1949. The building housing the Miners’ House of Culture in Abay dates from 1959. The Abayskaya Mining Museum preserves the history of the Churubay-Nura coal deposit. A twelve-meter-high portrait mural of Abai is located on House 6A on Pobedy Avenue.

Landscape

Abay lies in a gently rolling valley formed by the Sherubay-Nura and Sokur rivers. The city is surrounded by a dry steppe landscape with feather grass, fescue, wormwood, and steppe shrubs. Abay is also located east of the railway and the roads between Abay and Karabas.

Public Life

The Abay District Cultural and Leisure Center is located in the center of Abay. Its program, “Creativity Without Borders,” includes festivals, competitions, forums, and entertainment programs. The center operates 130 clubs and groups, including 101 amateur folk-art groups. The Zere ensemble at Abay’s cultural center presents Kazakh folk singing traditions and customs in concerts.

Behind the Miners’ House of Culture are a 6.5-hectare park and a stadium.
