Culture and History

The prehistoric rock carvings of Lipci are described as the oldest drawings of their kind in Montenegro. They are also described as evidence that the Bay of Kotor was inhabited during the Neolithic and Early Bronze Age around 3000 BC. The site is classified as a Category II archaeological cultural monument.

Stijena Lipci contains depictions of deer, horses, geometric shapes, and stylized human figures. The rock art site can be reached in about ten minutes via a marked uphill path from the roadside parking area. Information boards at Stijena Lipci provide context and explanations.

Hiking and Landscape

The Lipci–Selo-Ubli mountain route is classified as moderate. The Lipci–Morinj coastal path takes about 30 minutes and leads through shaded sections with olive and fig trees.

Water

The water at Lipci beach is usually calm because the bay is sheltered there. Sea kayaking is possible along the coast of the Bay of Kotor between Risan and Morinj, below the rock art cliffs of Lipci.

Location and Transport

Lipci is located on the northern shore of the Bay of Kotor between Risan and Morinj. The settlement is situated on the main road along the northern shore of the bay. A roundabout in Lipci connects northward to Nikšić, Žabljak, and Durmitor.

The Kotor–Herceg Novi bus route stops in Risan; from there, Lipci is about a 20-minute walk along the bay's coastal road. Nearby, the Roman Mosaics site of Risan is open to visitors; visiting it takes about 30 minutes.

Lipci has a pier as well as a facility for docking and communal mooring of watercraft.
