The Church of Peace in Świdnica is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is considered Europe’s largest Baroque timber-framed Protestant church. It was built after the Thirty Years’ War (1618–1648) under an imperial privilege. The city’s cathedral offers a distinct architectural contrast: its interior combines Gothic and Baroque styles, and its tower is said to be the tallest in Lower Silesia. In Strzegom, the Minor Basilica of St Peter and St Paul is one of Lower Silesia’s largest Gothic buildings. Its bell tower houses Poland’s oldest bell still in operation, dating from 1318.

The Railway Museum in Jaworzyna Śląska covers more than 2.5 hectares of outdoor grounds. Across three kilometres of tracks, it displays more than 150 historic rail vehicles. Some are operational, including Poland’s oldest active diesel locomotive. Every weekend, the museum runs rides on historic rolling stock. A different collection awaits at the Museum of Arms and Military Equipment in Witoszów Dolny. It includes more than 1,000 military objects, among them around 150 firearms, machine guns and anti-tank weapons. The museum offers talks on weapons and military equipment, as well as guided tours. It also has a shooting range where visitors can shoot handguns, machine guns and air guns.

During the Second World War, Krzyżowa was a site of early resistance to Nazism. On 12 November 1989, a Mass of Reconciliation there led to the founding of the Krzyżowa Foundation for European Understanding and the start of restoration work on the palace complex and other buildings. The palace is the foundation’s headquarters. Krzyżowa therefore offers a historical focus for your trip, covering both the history of resistance and the later history of German-Polish reconciliation.

The Gross-Rosen Museum in Rogoźnica offers tours of the former camp site and the historic quarries where prisoners were forced to work. This visit explores another serious chapter of history.
