Băile Homorod: Mineral Springs, Roman Traces and Winter Activities

Băile Homorod is a spa resort whose significant development began in the 19th century. At that time, villas, restaurants, promenades and music pavilions were built around the springs. There are around 12 mineral water springs and fountains in the area of Băile Homorod. Among the best-known mineral water springs in Băile Homorod are Izvorul Lobogó and Izvorul Mária. The mineral waters were already known in Roman times.

History

Two Roman burgi near Băile Homorod date from the 2nd century AD. The Roman burgus HR-I-s-B-12650 is located on the Földvár promontory at the confluence of the Cetăţii stream and the V Homorodului. The Roman burgus HR-I-s-B-12651 is located on the Földvár promontory at the fork of the Văii Seci, 200 metres from the fortification at Pârâul Cetăţii. The two sites therefore share the Földvár promontory, but differ in their immediate relation to the confluence and the fork.

Nature

The mineral water of the Izvorul Lobogó spring is mildly carbonated, contains chloride and sodium, and is alkaline, ferruginous and hypotonic. Culmea Laz is a peak in the surroundings of Băile Homorod. Vârful Mare is a peak in the surroundings of Băile Homorod. Dealul Cetăţii is a peak in the surroundings of Băile Homorod. Muntele Ascuțit is a peak in the surroundings of Băile Homorod. The springs and the named peaks thus represent two different landscape aspects: mineral water and higher points of the terrain.

Biserica Călugăreni is a church in the surroundings of Băile Homorod. Biserica Ghipeş is also a church in the surroundings of Băile Homorod.

Leisure

In addition to the Lobogó ski slope, there is a 100-metre-long luge track for children. Lobogó Resort has a swimming pool that is 25 metres long and 8.5 metres wide, with a depth of 1.20 to 1.40 metres. There is also a 5 × 3 metre pool for babies and toddlers. Horse riding is one of the leisure activities offered by Lobogó Resort in Băile Homorod.
