Cozmeni between the church, hiking trail and peaks

Cozmeni has a distinctive historical feature in the center of the village: the fortified Roman Catholic Church of Saints Kozma and Damján stands in the center of the settlement and is considered the oldest and most representative building in the municipality. The dedication to the saints, the fortified architectural form and the central position shape the character of the church building. At the same time, the significance of the building is not limited to the village center, as it is regarded as an outstanding building within the entire municipality.

The road location is also clearly defined. The settlement of Cozmeni is traversed by the DN12 between Sânmartin and Tușnad.

From Cozmeni, a hiking trail leads via Lăzăreşti and Câmpul Capelei to Cetatea Balvanyos. The route is 15.5 km long, takes 5–6 hours and has an elevation difference of 385 m. The starting point, intermediate stops and destination are all named: Lăzăreşti and Câmpul Capelei follow Cozmeni, before Cetatea Balvanyos forms the endpoint. The length, duration and elevation difference describe the scale of this continuous hiking connection. On a hike, the route length, duration and elevation difference help travelers realistically plan the time and physical demands of a day in advance. Hikes with a stated duration and elevation difference are generally prepared for before departure with regard to the time of day and personal fitness. Before setting out, travelers can also check the current trail conditions.

The trail thus creates a direct connection between the settlement and a named destination. Its route is not limited to the village center, but continues via two further stops to Cetatea Balvanyos.

There are four peaks in the area around Cozmeni: Haramul Mare, Lazaresti, Cetatii and Asalvani. The four peaks are named as individual landscape points and are each located in the vicinity of Cozmeni.

The cultural references extend from the central church building to several different places in the wider regional area around Cozmeni. Casa Memorială Imre Nagy is a historic site there. The Mânăstirea Ortodoxă Sfântul Nicolae monastery is also located in this wider regional area. There are also two monuments: Monumentul Luptei Anticomuniste and Monumentul Eroului Român.

Historic sites and monasteries can be prepared for a visit by checking the currently applicable opening hours. Monuments can be included in a cultural route without combining their respective locations or historical associations.
