Comuna Lupeni: Hotels and Accommodation
Comuna Lupeni, also known as Farkaslaka, lies in the Fehér-Nyikó Valley and on Romanian National Road 13A. Anyone planning a stay in Comuna Lupeni will want to book a hotel that meets their own preferences.
Culture
North of the village, near the border with the municipality of Comuna Corund, lies Cetatea Firtoş near Firtuşu, a medieval fortress dating from the 13th century. Mănăstirea fortificată de la Firtuşu, a fortified medieval monastery and place of worship dating from the 13th century, is located on Dealul Firtoş. The ruins of the Turnul roman de la Firtuşu – Péterhegyese conceal the remains of a Roman watchtower and signal tower.
The Roman Catholic Church in Lupeni is 47 metres long and 15.80 metres wide and has a 38-metre-high tower. It was built between 1842 and 1848 in the Classicist style on the church hill west of the village.
The Tamási Áron Memorial House is the writer’s more than 150-year-old birthplace, a building constructed from hewn wood with a shingle roof. The house displays the writer’s furniture, personal belongings, manuscripts, works, letters and photographs.
The Tamási Áron Monument is a three-metre-high, eight-tonne work carved from a rock by sculptors Szervátiusz Jenő and Tibor. It depicts figures from the works “Énekes madár”, “Ördögváltozás Csíkban” and the Ábel trilogy. Tamási Áron’s grave is located on the western outskirts of Lupeni, behind the Roman Catholic Church and the cemetery, in a flower-filled park.
Routes
The thematic Via Transilvanica route passes through the Harghita County municipalities of Praid, Atia, Atid, Inlăceni and Lupeni. Via Mariae is a spiritual pilgrimage route that is also open to tourist and sporting use. This section leads from Inlăceni via Firtuşu, Păuleni and Lupeni to Dealu.
Leisure
At Imperiul Poneilor, children can ride and pet ponies. Imperiul Poneilor also includes an exhibition of pony carriages and small animals such as rabbits, chickens, lambs, peacocks, pigeons and pheasants.
The Lófő Equestrian Center in Lupeni offers horseback riding tours, sleigh rides and carriage rides. Horseback riding tours must be booked in advance; a lead time of three to four days is recommended. Depending on customers’ needs, they can last anywhere from one hour to one week.
Inside the Inima Lui Iisus Statue, visitors can climb the internal metal spiral staircase up to the head and enjoy the view from above. The statue is approximately 22 metres high and made of iron and stainless steel.
Cuisine
The Kotyogó Restaurant in Lupeni bases its cuisine on local traditions and offers Transylvanian classics.
