Gurasada – History, Nature and Climbing Park

Gurasada Park is an adventure and climbing park in the MureÈ™ Valley on the E 68 in the village of Gothatea, in the municipality of Gurasada. Active activities, historical sites and landscape themes can be considered as different focal points.

Activities

Gurasada Park offers two tree-climbing courses with different levels of difficulty for children and adults. The different difficulty levels can be compared directly.

History and Architecture

Gurasada was first mentioned in a document in 1292 under the name ZAD. A prehistoric settlement from the Paleolithic period is recorded in Gurasada. At Câmpuri-Surduc, on the Cetăţuia promontory north of the village, there is a La Tène-period Geto-Dacian fortification within the administrative territory of Gurasada. It dates from the 1st century BC to the 2nd century AD; the wall consisted of unworked stones bonded with earth, while the upper section was made of wood.

The Klobosisky manor house in the village of Gurasada has an adjoining park covering approximately 2.50 hectares. The Church of Saint Michael the Archangel in Gurasada is a historic monument from the 13th century and preserves naive interior paintings associated with the work begun in 1765 by Ioan from Deva and Nicolae from Pitești. Due to its vaulting system and construction, the church is regarded in Central and Eastern Europe as a Romanesque architectural monument with a character unique in its expanded program.

Nature

The Gurasada stream is a tributary of the Mureș; upstream from Gurasada, it flows into the Mureș between Gurasada and Gothatea. In the village of Boiu de Sus, within the administrative territory of Gurasada, a karst landscape extends from Cărmăzănești to Glodghilești. There is a cave system comprising 27 recorded natural cavities, including 24 caves and 3 shafts.

Boiu de Sus, within the administrative territory of Gurasada, is also home to a nature reserve for horned vipers that is unique in Europe.

Events

The traditional Ruga takes place every year on the last Sunday in July. Gurasada’s annual Community Day is a cultural and sporting event held on the last Sunday in July in the nature park of the village of Gurasada. The Winter Customs Festival includes Christmas carols and performances involving children from Gurasada and the other villages. Ruga and Community Day take place on the same Sunday in July, but differ in the form described: Ruga is traditional, while Community Day is cultural and sporting and is held in the village’s nature park.

Getting There

National road DN 7 crosses the administrative territory of the municipality of Gurasada from east to west. An access road for the Gurasada railway stop is recorded in the area between km 510+687 and km 510+737.
