Valea Lupului: Bahlui Plain, Churches and Archaeological Traces
Valea Lupului combines archaeological traces, ecclesiastical architectural history and a landscape of the Bahlui Plain, valleys and plateaus. A painted biconical vessel from the 1955 archaeological research campaign at the settlement in Comuna Valea Lupului, Iași County, is attributed to the Eneolithic period and the Cucuteni B culture in the first half of the 4th millennium BC. The hand-shaped vessel bears painted motifs, thereby combining its distinctive form with a striking design.
Other places on the same higher-level area are Muncelu de Sus, Hârtoape, Miclăușeni, Pașcani, Iaşi, Hândrești, Budăi and Roşcani.
Culture and History
Remains of Hallstatt-period vessels made of brick-red clay with black exteriors, as well as human skeletal remains, were discovered in the nursery of the Iași Roads and Bridges Directorate. Thus, Valea Lupului contains Hallstatt-period finds alongside the considerably older vessel from the Cucuteni B culture. The wooden chapel of Beldiman Parish features cross-shaped architecture in the Ștefan style, with a central tower above the naos, and is unpainted.
The center of Valea Lupului village developed on the slope where the old church stands. The Christmas concert featuring Christmas carols by the invited guests of Beldiman Parish is considered an annual tradition in Valea Lupului; the announced event is scheduled for Saturday, December 13, at 17:00.
The Church of “Sfinții Împărați Constantin și Elena” is an active parish church in Valea Lupului; its website publishes a service schedule for August 2026. Before attending a service or concert, current times and event dates should be checked.
Landscape
The Bahlui Plain extends across the southern part of the village and is crossed by the Bahlui River. The area is characterized by hilly relief with narrow, V-shaped valleys and gentle slopes. These include the Valea Prisecii valley and broad plateaus such as Platoul Beldiman. The varied landforms thus range from the open plain to the more dissected valleys and broad uplands.
The Valea Lupului area belongs to the Moldavian Plain; the commune's territory lies near the contact zone with the Central Moldavian Plateau. Valea Lupului Commune lies to the west, near the city of Iași, on the left bank of the Bahlui.
Location and Connections
National road DN28 crosses Valea Lupului and connects Iași with Roman. Near Valea Lupului, the bypass road classified as national road DN28D branches off from DN28; it runs southwest to Miroslava and Ciurea, where it becomes DJ248.
