Culture and Townscape

Petrova combines a distinctive townscape with sites of remembrance and cultural events. Wooden gates and old houses can be seen, each with a style that differs from the rest of Maramureș. The village is also home to a monument to Gheorghe Bilașcu, who is considered the founder of Romanian dentistry. A bust of Gheorghe Bilașcu was unveiled in front of the confessional school in Petrova. Casa Mihalca in Petrova is classified as a monument under the designation LMI-MM-II-m-B-04603.

The cultural calendar includes the folkloric open-air festival “Festivalul Bulbucilor” and a series of cultural symposia. Both types of events stand alongside the village’s architectural and commemorative-cultural attractions. History

The present-day church was built between 1864 and 1873 from masonry in the Neo-Gothic style. Its predecessor was destroyed by fire in 1857. Thus, two clearly separate points in time are central to the church’s construction: the destruction of the earlier church and the construction of the present building. This historical development supplements the visible features of the townscape with a specific chronological context.

Landscape

Mănăstirea Petrova is located on the Dealul Hera ridge near Petrova. From there, it offers a panorama of the Valea Vișeului and the peaks of the Munții Maramureșului. The ridge, valley and peaks refer to three different landscape features. Together with the cultural attractions, they create a townscape in which architectural history and views of the surrounding terrain stand side by side.

Route

One route leads to Mănăstirea Ortodoxă Izvorul Tămăduirii, also known as Mănăstirea Petrova. It begins on the outskirts of Petrova and returns to Petrova via the DJ185. The route’s destination, starting point and return location, as well as the road mentioned, are therefore specified. Getting There

Petrova is situated on National Road 18 and has a CFR railway station. Its road access and railway connection are therefore two separate details concerning travel to the village.
