Culture and history

The Mănăstirea Recea monastery was founded in 1992 and is dedicated to the patron saints “Sfinţii Ierarhi Martiri Ilie Iorest şi Sava”. The Recea monastery complex features rustic Romanian architecture with Byzantine and Brâncovenesc influences. It draws on the architectural principles of the monasteries in the foothills of the Wallachian Carpathians and in central and northern Moldavia. This is visibly reflected in a rustic Romanian basic form, Byzantine influences and Brâncovenesc design elements. At monasteries, current opening hours or special visiting times may be relevant for planning the day; such information should be checked before setting out.

The Sfânta Treime Church in Ungheni is 25 meters long, 8 meters wide and 20 meters high to the top of the cross. The present church building was erected in 1858. In the town of Ungheni, the wooden “Sf. Arhanghel” Church from 1726 stands in Cerghizel. The church in Cerghid was first documented in 1733. A new church with a brick foundation and tiled roof was built in Morești in 1883. The churches in Ungheni, Cerghizel, Cerghid and Morești thus represent different architectural forms and historical periods. The named religious buildings date from different historical phases: 1726 and 1733 are followed by the present building from 1858 and the new construction from 1883.

The wider regional surroundings of Ungheni include the Mânăstirea Cipăieni monastery, the Fosta Sinagoga synagogue, the Biserica Grebenişu de Câmpie church and the Biserica Ortodoxă Găneşti Orthodox church. The range thus extends from a monastery and synagogue to churches representing different names and traditions.

Other destinations in the catalog include Curteni, Sângeorgiu De Mureş, Gorneşti, Sowata, Rohrdachen, Gheorghe Doja, Eremitu and Răstolița.
