Near Târgu Neamţ, Neamţ Fortress stands on the Timuş rock on the Pleşu ridge at an altitude of approximately 480 metres.

Culture

In Romania, it belongs to the category of medieval monuments of exceptional value. The fortress's restored collections reopened in 2009; visitors can see some of the fortress rooms as they would have looked in their heyday.

Another gateway to the past begins at the Veronica Micle Memorial House, built in 1834. In Humulești, the Ion Creangă Memorial Museum preserves the house where Ion Creangă spent his childhood. The house was built around 1830 by Petrea Ciubotariul, his grandfather.

The History and Ethnography Museum of Târgu Neamț displays archaeological remains from the city area. They point to an early settlement dating back to the Neolithic and Bronze Ages. The museum also presents traditional peasant structures, traditional working techniques and tools, local folk costume, and household textiles typical of the ethnographic area of Târgu Neamț.

For planning your own day, the cultural content can be arranged according to personal interest: fortress history, personal remembrance, archaeological traces of past eras or inherited everyday culture. No fixed order is necessary; each topic can independently form the focus of one part of the day.

Nature

Vânători-Neamț Nature Park is a protected area whose territory also includes the territory of Târgu Neamț.

From Neamț Fortress, a hiking trail approximately 3 kilometres long leads through the forest over the ridge of Pleșu Hill to the Monumentul Vânătorilor de munte.

A tourist route leads from Târgu Neamț via Pipirig to Poiana Largului through this part of Neamț County.

The perspectives also differ when it comes to the routes: a single path through the forest, the connection between several places and the geographical classification of a protected area belong to different planning levels. The differences lie in the type of movement and the spatial scale; both can be considered separately when planning your trip.

Events

The “Days of Neamț Fortress” medieval festival is an annual event.
