Wine and Culture

The “Crama 1777” Museum presents the wine cellar of Valea Călugărească as a monument of medieval art created by local woodcarvers. In the museum’s cellar there is a themed room for wine tastings; barrels and ceramic vessels used to store wine and spirits are on display there.

The “Paralela 45 – Land of Red Wines” monument marks the geographical location of Valea Călugărească as well as the centuries-old tradition of viticulture and winemaking. It was inaugurated in front of the Valea Călugărească Town Hall and serves as a landmark for locals and visitors.

History

The Barbu Matac manor house in Valea Călugărească was built between 1901 and 1903 by Barbu Matac on the former Cantacuzino estate. Richard Nixon, Fidel Castro and Nicolae Ceaușescu were invited to wine tastings at Conacul Matac.

The architecture of the “Izvorul Tămăduirii” Church in Gura Văii, Prahova County, was designed by the architect Ion Mincu.
