Zalău – Art, History and Digital Culture

Zalău combines historical memory with digital interpretation: the „Clio High Tech“ exhibition hall of the museum uses virtual and augmented reality to present 3D objects of cultural heritage.

Culture

The building housing the Ioan Sima Art Gallery was built in 1926. The Ioan Sima Art Museum is the art department of the Zalău County Museum of History and Art and has a permanent fine arts exhibition.

The museum in Zalău was founded on 15 May 1951. Its „Vasile Lucăcel“ history department presents the history of this region through reconstructions. The chronological sequence extends from the Paleolithic through antiquity, the Middle Ages and the so-called Golden Age to the present day.

The house now known as the Ady Endre Memorial House was where the poet Ady Endre lived for a time and wrote his first poems, which were published in Szilágysag. The memorial house was built in a Neo-Baroque style with local elements.

History

The Wesselényi statue stands in the park in the historic centre of Zalău, today’s Piața Iuliu Maniu, and depicts a scene from the 1848 Revolution. It was created by the sculptor Fadrusz Janos and inaugurated on 18 September 1902.
