At the center of Babadag stands the Geamia Ali-Gazi Pașa, also known as the Babadag Mosque. This historic monument of religious architecture was built in 1609 or 1610.

The mausoleum of Sari Saltuk Baba Dede was commissioned by Sultan Bayezid II in 1484 and became a pilgrimage site visited by all sultans who traveled through Babadag. The present building probably dates from the late 18th century.

Casa Panaghia houses an exhibition of Oriental art featuring traditional folk art of the Turkish and Tatar populations of Dobruja.

Protected Areas

The Pădurea Bujorului nature reserve lies on the southern slope of Dealul Bujorului in the Babadag Plateau. It covers almost 51 hectares and is a botanical nature reserve with a sub-Mediterranean forest, numerous endangered bird and animal species, and wild-growing peonies.

May is considered the best time to see the wild peonies there; they may also bloom in June.

The Pădurea Babadag–Codru nature reserve has one of the highest concentrations of endangered species both in Dobruja and at the national level, including numerous orchid species. It preserves unique forest communities in Dobruja, particularly trees that are more than 100 years old.

Landscape and Route

Vârful Secarul is one of the few granite areas of the limestone Babadag Plateau and, at 401 meters, reaches the highest elevation on the plateau. The protected clearings of Vârful Secarul feature Pontic steppe vegetation, rocky vegetation and heat-loving trees.

Babadag is the final stop on the 130-kilometer circular route “Sarichioi – Enisala – Jurilovca – Babadag”.

Sport fishing is designated as an activity for Lake Babadag.
