Nature

Kiarovský močiar is one of the largest wetlands in southern Slovakia. Most of the Kiarov municipal area lies on the wet, flood-prone floodplain of the Ipeľ. Part of Kiarov also has a hilly character. These three features describe different aspects of the same place: the regional importance of the wetland, the nature of most of the municipal area and the hilly share of the landscape.

Culture

Along the Ipeľ, Kiarov's folk costume belongs to the westernmost subgroup of the Palóc folk costume. Its connection with the Ipeľ and its position within the Palóc folk costume are interrelated aspects of this cultural feature.

The Lászlóa Oroszlányiho Manor House in Malý Kiarov is a neoclassical building from the 19th century. It is rectangular, partially basemented and covered with a hipped roof. The high L-shaped terrace has ten columns on the southern side and three on the eastern side. The building's form results from its floor plan, partial basement, roof shape and differently articulated terrace. The manor house is used for cultural purposes.

Chapel

The “Kaplnka Sedembolestnej Panny Márie” Chapel in Malý Kiarov is a Baroque wayside chapel from the 18th century. At the beginning of the 19th century, it received a massive Classicist tower, a bell tower. Thus, the Baroque chapel building and the later Classicist addition form part of its architectural history. The chapel is in good condition and continues to serve its religious purpose.

Kiarov holds Community Day every year on 1 June.
