Borinka: Hotels Among Castle Ruins and Karst Landscape

Borinka lies at an altitude of 203 metres in the valley of the Stupava stream on the southwestern edge of the Little Carpathians. Its location combines a clearly defined landscape setting with a number of historic sites in the surrounding area. The Borinský Karst area lies above Borinka. Medené Hámre is also located almost centrally in the Devín Carpathians; it is a former settlement in the cadastral area of the municipality of Borinka in Malacky District. Today, the picturesque area is known as a tourist destination and excursion spot for walks.

Nature

Medené Hámre can be reached from Borinka via a paved road or hiking trails. There is a small reservoir at the former settlement. A statue of Saint John of Nepomuk from 1731 stands on a prismatic pedestal on its shore.

Culture

The ruins of Pajštún Castle stand on a 486-metre-high limestone rock and date back to the 13th century. From Borinka, the castle can be reached on foot via a red-marked trail with a steep ascent in about 45 minutes.

Near the present-day municipality of Borinka are the remains of the medieval watchtower Dračí hrádok. Dračí hrádok is a watchtower ruin built in the 13th century and probably served as a guard post protecting the route through the Little Carpathians. The former settlement of Medené Hámre adds an economic aspect to these historic traces: copperware was historically produced there.

Spirituality

The Calvary at Pajštún includes various stations within the grounds. In the lower section there is a statue of Saint Michael and an altar; the upper section contains Stations of the Cross. The Calvary was completed and consecrated in 1940.

Activities

There is also a climbing area at Pajštún with around 70 routes. The routes are 25 to 30 metres long; alongside easier routes, there are also more demanding ones.

The Stavanie máje event is held annually in Borinka. This recurring date is therefore part of the local events calendar alongside the landscape and cultural attractions described as permanent features.
