Discover Báhoň: Wine Region, History and Hotels

Báhoň lies in the southern part of the fertile Trnava Tableland, in the hilly landscape around Trnava. The surrounding area is characterized by gently rolling hills, while the Vištucký Stream flows through the cadastral territory. Báhoň is also part of the Little Carpathians wine region, the Malokarpatský wine-growing region, and the Červený Kameň microregion.

History and Buildings

The beginnings of settlement in Báhoň date back to the Neolithic period, as evidenced by finds from a Neolithic settlement. In 1845, the horse-drawn railway line from Bratislava to Trnava was built, which had a positive impact on life in Báhoň. An important historical site is Báhoň Château. It is a symmetrical, U-shaped, two-storey building with access from the courtyard. The château was built between 1759 and 1765 in the Baroque style and remodeled in the Classicist style in 1810 or 1816.

The Church of St. Francis of Assisi, “Kostol sv. Františka z Assisi,” was built between 1914 and 1921 according to a design by the architect Milan Michal Harminc. It has a single nave and a polygonally terminated presbytery. Beside the church stands a stone cross that, according to its inscription, was erected in 1874. The Chapel of St. Apollonia, “Kaplnka sv. Apolónie,” stands on S. Hlinku Street. A wayside statue of Saint Vendelin on the main road dates from 1860, while the statue of Saint John of Nepomuk stands on Potočná Street. Báhoň’s center also contains a monument to those who fell in the First and Second World Wars.

Culture

A recurring event in Báhoň is the “Richtárska vatra,” which traditionally features the lighting of a bonfire. The 2026 edition took place at Báhoň football stadium and included concerts and activities for children. “Stavanie mája” is also a traditional recurring spring event in Báhoň and takes place in front of the municipal office.

The “Richtárska varecha” took place in Báhoň for the 17th time in 2026. The event includes an entertainment program for visitors and stalls offering various sweet and savory foods. Thus, alongside the historic buildings, recurring public events featuring music, activities for children and a culinary program also form part of the townscape.
