Budmerice: Manor House, Nature Trails and Hotels

Budmerický Manor House was built in 1889 in the pseudo-Romantic style by the Pálffys as a hunting lodge. Budmerice is therefore home to a building whose history is closely connected with other cultural sites and routes in the area.

Culture and History

Budmerický Manor House is surrounded by an English park dating from the second half of the 19th century. The accessible museum section of the manor house offers guided tours with expert explanations by a lecturer. The Chapel of the Seven Sorrows of the Virgin Mary is located in the Budmerice cemetery; it was built in 1768 by Rudolf Pálffy and his wife Eleonora. A church in Budmerice was consecrated in 1782. The ethnographic exhibition at Budmerická izbička features a front room furnished with contemporary furniture, a kitchen with a permanently installed stove, traditional costumes, textile-processing tools, embroidery, ceramics, agricultural implements and wood carvings. Budmerická izbička also hosts art exhibitions, photography exhibitions and craft exhibitions with demonstrations, as well as creative workshops and courses.

At Budmerická izbička, visitors can learn how traditional regional dishes are prepared and sample them. The exhibition, demonstrations and events thus bring together domestic culture, crafts, everyday objects and regional cuisine without separating the individual areas from one another.

Nature

The Budmerice nature trail is 4.5 kilometres long and has five information stations. One information station covers the protected Malé Karpaty bird reserve, while another focuses on the Alúvium Gidry nature reserve. Two information stations are dedicated to the flora and fauna of Lindava. The Budmerice nature trail is suitable for hiking and cycling and passes the Budmerická izbička ethnographic museum.

The network of routes also includes the Budmerice–Silnica nature trail. It begins behind the football pitch and runs along the Gidra stream. The tourist trail from Budmerice begins at the bus stop on Rudolf-Fabry Square. This describes both a 4.5-kilometre nature trail with five information stations and a route along the stream, as well as a tourist trail, each with a named starting point.
