Budiš: Hotels, Mineral Springs and Local History
Budiš lies in the southwestern part of the Turčianska kotlina basin at the foot of the Žiar Mountains and in the spring area of the Jasenica stream. Three mineral springs are located in Budiš along a tectonic fault.
Landscape
The municipal area of Budiš is predominantly forested and hilly. Fir-beech forests and spruce forests grow at higher elevations. The landscape is therefore characterised by forested slopes and higher-altitude forest communities, while the location at the foot of the Žiar Mountains and in the spring area of the Jasenica determines the geographical setting of the village.
Cycling
A specific route is provided by the Žiar cycling circuit between Sklené and Budiš and back. The circuit is 36.5 kilometres long and classified as a moderately difficult sport mountain-bike route. In the direction of Budiš, it turns onto a forest road before reaching the village, climbing to the Štyri chotáre locality. The route, length and classification are fixed, as is the climb on the forest road before the village.
History and Community Life
The history of the Budiš Volunteer Fire Brigade dates back to 1891. Above Budiš, at the Na Hutách site, a glassworks operated to produce glass objects. Its activity lasted for more than a century and is probably dated to the period between 1750 and 1870.
After the glassworks ceased operating, representatives of the noble family concerned built three tourist villas in Na Hutách. The three tourist villas in Na Hutách were later made accessible to visitors from Budiš and the wider surrounding area. Budiš also has an ensemble of folk architecture consisting of single-storey, three-room log houses with gabled roofs and distinctive Podlomenica details.
The municipality of Budiš currently organises, among other things, a municipal sledding event.
Mineral Springs and Excursions
The excursion programme of the Turčianske Teplice spa includes visits to and tastings of the mineral springs in Dubovom and Budiš. From Turčianske Teplice, the mineral spring can be reached by car in about 13 minutes in the direction of Nitrianske Pravno; no public transport runs to the spring.
A publicly accessible mineral spring is located west of Budiš. From the car park on the main road between Budiš and Jasenovo, it is about 100 metres to the spring.
