Dubové: Culture, Nature and Cycle Route 8474

Dubové lies on the northeastern slopes of the Žiar Mountains, on the left bank of the Turiec River. The municipality combines open areas with wooded sections: about half of its area is unforested, while the remainder is characterized by dense forests. The municipality also contains a carbonated mineral spring between the road and the Turiec River.

The landscape area includes the 750-hectare Mokrade Turca Wetland (Turiec Wetlands), site number 932, which also covers the cadastral area of Dubové. The wetland is home to rare, endangered and critically endangered species. At the same time, it is a migration corridor for waterfowl and serves as a spawning and nursery area for native fish and other aquatic animals.

The first written mention of Dubové dates from 1262, when the place was referred to as Doboa. In the upper part of Dubové stands a bell tower dating from 1873. The character of the village also includes old masonry houses with raised side entrances. Their construction is adapted to the slightly uneven terrain and makes the historic settlement structure visible in the streetscape.

The Dvor roľnícky farmstead in Dubové, with house numbers 60 and 170, is a national cultural monument. It is listed in the Central Register of the Slovak Monuments Fund under number 11973/1-2; as a monument property, it is also included in the list of national cultural monuments. Another monument in Dubové commemorates those who fell in the fighting of 1944.

The Prameň folklore ensemble has existed in Dubové since 1983. Prameň performs on every occasion at the local cultural centre, in other municipalities and at further events. During Carnival season, its members walk through the village singing and dancing. Dubové also has amateur theatre for adults and children. Cultural life includes performances by the ensemble, which has existed since 1983, as well as amateur theatre for adults and children. The surroundings of Dubové are known for the occurrence of large quantities of mushrooms in summer and autumn.

The 6 km Dubové–Požehy–Štubňa cycle route is classified as an easy recreational MTB route. It begins before Dubové, passes through the village and follows asphalt and surfaced paths. When riding the route, checking the current trail conditions is part of the usual preparation.

A forest path leads from the nearby spa town of Turčianske Teplice through Diviacky háj to Dubové. For this connection and for the cycle route, current trail or route conditions should be checked before departure.
