Stratená can be experienced through nature, trails, history and transport. The topics range from landscapes and hiking trails to sacred art and historical traces. This gives travellers an objective picture of the place that arouses curiosity without relying on general promises.
Nature
In the Stratená Nature Reserve, the landscape takes centre stage: it protects well-preserved forest ecosystems on varied terrain. These include larch-pine stands on limestone rocks. The chamois (Rupicapra rupicapra) is relatively common in the nature reserve. The Stratená Nature Reserve also includes the cadastral area of Stratená. This keeps the reserve’s geographical connection with the village clear.
Mountains and Trails
The Havrania skala massif contains dozens of small caves, some of which are accessible to tourists via official hiking trails. Havrania skala is a distinctive and important peak near the small municipality of Stratená and offers one of the finest viewpoints in Slovenský raj.
The official circular trail to Havrania skala begins and ends in Stratená. The official circular trail to Havrania skala via Zajfy has no ladders or climbing rungs. The ascent from the settlement of Dobšinská Ľadová Jaskyňa to the cave is approximately 1 km long, overcomes an elevation gain of 130 metres and takes around 25 minutes. The length, elevation difference and approximate duration are therefore explicitly stated for this section of the trail.
The Tiesňava Valley near Stratená remains closed until further notice after a landslide damaged the entire footpath, including the safety chains.
Skalná Brána is an entrance to the Stratenský kaňon. The remains of Skalná Brána bear witness to fighting during the Second World War.
Culture and History
The Roman Catholic Church of Saint Augustine in Stratená was built in 1909 by Ferdinand Coburg. A remarkable statue of Mary Magdalene comes from the workshop of Master Paul of Levoča. Alongside the historical traces at Skalná Brána, these two testimonies represent different cultural and historical connections.
Dobšinská Ľadová Jaskyňa is a district of Stratená and was added to the World Heritage List in 2000.
Transport
The Margecany–Banská Bystrica railway line runs through Stratená and the district of Dobšinská Ľadová Jaskyňa. The route therefore connects the village and its named district within the same railway line.
