Krásnohorské Podhradie: Hotels and Andrássy Culture
The Andrássy Mausoleum is part of the cultural heart of Krásnohorské Podhradie. It serves as a publicly accessible museum and is part of the exhibition of the Slovak National Museum – Múzeum Betliar. Visitors can view the lavishly furnished interior and learn more about the lives of Dionýz and Františka Andrássy.
Culture and History
The Andrássy Mausoleum is a small sepulchral complex dating from 1903–1904. It was built in the Art Nouveau and Neoclassical styles from white Carrara marble imported from Italy.
Krásna Hôrka Castle was originally built as a medieval fortification. Its museum history began after 1857, when Count Juraj Andrássy established a family museum using surviving furniture as well as weapons and armour; the collections were opened to visitors in 1867. Due to the ongoing reconstruction, the castle is currently closed to the public.
The older history of the locality also includes a church in the municipality of Krásnohorské Podhradie, which is already mentioned for the years 1332–1337.
Another architectural trace is the Andrássyovská obrazáreň, a building constructed in 1908 in the Art Nouveau style. Since 1990, it has once again served its original purpose as an art gallery; its floor plan has the shape of a Greek cross.
Location
The Andrássy Mausoleum is located in Krásnohorské Podhradie directly on the E58/E571 main road between Rožňava and Košice. Opposite it are a ticket booth and a small temporary parking area.
Things to Do
The traditional St. Valentine’s ascent under Čipkov vrch took place for the eleventh time on 17 February 2024. During this eleventh ascent, the start and finish were once again at the cultural centre. A 54.5-kilometre cycling tour around Zádiel passes through Krásnohorské Podhradie between Drnava and Rožňava.
When checking a hotel in Krásnohorské Podhradie, compare the exact location, type of accommodation, possible occupancy, included services, price components, and booking and cancellation conditions on the respective offer page. This is especially helpful when travelling with several people, as it allows you to consider the total price and scope of services separately. Review the offers carefully before booking and compare the listed fields with one another. For cost planning, it is worth reading the displayed amounts in the same currency and for the same period, and distinguishing between the total price and individual price components. Also check whether the stated occupancy matches your number of people and which conditions apply to changes or cancellation. If several offers are under consideration, you can compare the details side by side in the same order: location, type of accommodation, occupancy, services, price and conditions. This makes it clear which differences are actually stated in the offer and which arise only from a different presentation. The decision should be based on the specific information displayed on the respective page; general expectations regarding facilities, distance or suitability do not replace this check. Therefore, compare the fields in full before making a selection.
