In Plášťovce, natural and cultural features come together with clearly defined route connections. The local landscape includes the Šípka nature reserve, St. George's Church, historic manor houses and small religious monuments. This picture is complemented by the Náučný chodník Plášťovce educational trail and the Hrušovská cycling route. Different themes therefore come together here without having to be reduced to a single sight or activity.

Culture

The present-day St. George's Church was built of bricks in the Art Nouveau style. Its tower is 42 metres high. At the same time, it is probably the third church at the same location. The building thus combines its current architectural form with the longer history of the same church site.

The preserved small religious monuments in Plášťovce include the Trinity statue from 1901. It is a local religious monument. The Palásthyovci manor house provides a different historical accent: it was originally built in the Baroque style in the early 18th century and completed in 1730. At the beginning of the 19th century, it was remodelled in the Classical style.

Less well-preserved buildings are also part of the town's historic heritage. The two-wing Classical curia house from the 19th century has a flat ceiling; today, it is neglected and lies in ruins. The so-called Turecká kaplnka, by contrast, is a Classical wayside chapel at a battle site.

Nature

The Šípka nature reserve was designated in 1988, covers 46.8 hectares and is subject to the fourth level of protection. It protects forest-steppe communities on volcanic sandstones and conglomerates. The area also contains thermophilous and drought-loving steppe communities with rare and protected species.

Events

The regional children's folklore festival for kindergartens, “Szólj, síp, szólj!”, is held regularly in Plášťovce. The Oberačkové slávnosti, a harvest festival, are also held regularly. Both names refer to recurring events with different cultural focuses.

The Búzavirág folklore group from Plášťovce presents local customs and singing programmes. This also includes a traditional wedding from Plášťovce. The group performs at various events at home and abroad.

Routes and cycling trails

The Náučný chodník Plášťovce educational trail begins at the Turecká kaplnka. It is 12 kilometres long and has an elevation gain of 160 metres. For a large part of the route, the educational trail is suitable for bicycles.

The educational trail can be reached by bus to Plášťovce and then on foot via a route of approximately 1.5 kilometres southwest of the town centre. The distance is expressly given only as an approximation. Plášťovce is also associated with the Hrušovská cycling route for cycling: it is a moderately difficult MTB route that continues via Rykynčice to Plášťovce.
