Slepčany: Hotels, Reservoir, Wine Route and Cultural Heritage

Slepčany lies in the Žitavská pahorkatina and Pohronská pahorkatina uplands, in the floodplain and on the terrace of the Žitava. The landscape is gently undulating and ranges from flat terrain to hilly country. A reservoir is located within the cadastral area of Slepčany. The Slepčany Reservoir offers opportunities for sport fishing and suitable conditions for swimming.

Nature and Trails

The wooded area along the Žitava is suitable for walks all year round. A green-marked hiking trail also passes through the landscape: it runs from Slepčany railway station via the Mlyňany Arboretum and the Lion Monument to the SAD bus stop in Veľké Vozokany. The local trail network therefore includes both a riverside path and a signposted route with several named stations. The route description names a starting point, two intermediate stations and an endpoint. The route connects the railway station with the arboretum, the monument and the bus stop, without these stations forming a single place to visit.

Culture and History

Juraj Selepčéni-Pohronec (1595–1685), Archbishop of Esztergom and Primate of Hungary, was born in Slepčany. A monument to him stands beside the church dedicated to Saint John of Nepomuk. The church itself was built in 1880–1881 in the Neoclassical style. Another historic religious site is the Chapel of the Virgin Mary, dating from 1778.

The vineyards also preserve a religious connection: a chapel with a statue of Saint Urban is located in the vineyards of Slepčany. In Inzulov Park, plantings of foreign woody species shape the appearance of the grounds. Zungov is among the technical monuments. It was built in 1911 by the Esztergom Chapter to irrigate meadows. Thus, the village contains religious buildings from different periods alongside a monument, a chapel in the vineyards, a park with foreign woody plants and a technical monument.

Wine and Festivals

Slepčany is a gateway to the Horné Požitavie Wine Route. Winegrowing is also reflected in the Feast of Saint Urban, which includes a Mass and a gathering with wine tasting. The Zungovský guláš Festival is a separate event: it will be held for the 18th time on 29 August 2026. Religious traditions, wine and a festival featuring a named dish thus stand side by side, while Zungov is also preserved as a technical monument.

Accommodation offers in Slepčany can be viewed or compared. Before completing a booking, the exact location, type of accommodation and stated occupancy are relevant fields on the respective offer page. The included services, individual price components and the booking or cancellation conditions must also be checked separately. The references to the reservoir, Horné Požitavie Wine Route and cultural heritage remain separate from these offer fields; no characteristic of an individual accommodation can be inferred from them. What is actually stated for the specific offer is therefore decisive. This objective check assumes neither availability nor proximity, facilities, accessibility or suitability, and provides a consistent basis for comparison.
