Kvakovce at Domaša Reservoir: Water, Trails and Culture

The Domaša–Dobrá recreational area at Domaša Reservoir is located in the cadastral territory of Kvakovce.

Nature and Shore

The Domaša–Dobrá recreational area has beach volleyball courts, a tennis court and a miniature golf course. A small stage and a chapel have been established in the shore area. Water sports such as sailing and windsurfing are practiced on the water. The recreational area is suitable for swimming, and fishing is possible. There is also a paddleboard rental service. The Domaša–Dobrá area is surrounded by extensive forest areas and a network of marked hiking trails.

On the Reservoir

An educational boat trip on Domaša Reservoir starts in the Domaša Dobrá recreational area, heads towards Valkov and then continues to the dam before the boat returns to the harbor. The trip takes approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Cycling Routes and Trails

The entire Domaša–Slanské vrchy cycling route is suitable for mountain bikes. It includes a 4.5 km section from the Domaša Dobrá recreational area to Kvakovce. Trepec Church is most easily reached from the Domaša–Dobrá recreational area via Trepecká cesta.

Culture

The Roman Catholic church in Kvakovce dates from 1774. The local events calendar includes the traditional Kvakovské Jánske slávnosti, which will take place on June 27, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. at the cultural center in the municipality of Kvakovce. The traditional public cultural event Slovenské NAVALIS took place on July 4, 2026, in Domaša Dobrá Bay in the municipality of Kvakovce.

Trepec Church also preserves a special historical connection to the reservoir. It is the only surviving immovable monument of the flooded village of Trepec. A traditional indulgence celebration is held in the church every year in July. In the locality of Dobrá, in the cadastral territory of the municipality of Kvakovce, an extensive urn burial site dating from the Early to Late Bronze Age was uncovered when the water level of Domaša Reservoir fell.
