Predmeja – Hotels, Gora and Hiking Trails

Predmeja is a good starting point for climbing Mali Golak, the highest peak in the municipality of Ajdovščina at 1,495 metres.

Nature and Landscape

Predmeja is located on Gora, a high karst plateau of Trnovski gozd between Čaven and Nanos. The well-known edge of Gora, Rob, is part of a landscape park. The famous Skukova voda spring lies below the edge of Gora. It is still visited today because of its water, which is believed to have healing properties. In Predmeja, Bošnarjevo brezno is considered the most easily accessible cave for visitors. The cave has three entrances and a natural bridge above the wide opening.

Trails and Activities

The themed trail “Pot po Dolu gor in dol” is marked and features descriptions of important sights. The “Pot po Robu” hiking trail is an easy route from Predmeja to Col over rocky ridges and meadows. It starts at the Mother Gorjanka Monument in Predmeja, where a large gravel car park is available. The trail runs along the edge of Gora and offers views over the Vipava Valley, the Karst, and the Gulf of Trieste and the Gulf of Piran.

The starting point of the “Na Čaven po Srednječavenski poti” trail is located in a car park between the quarry and the tunnels on the Lokavec–Predmeja road. Gora can be circumnavigated by mountain bike. The Kovk launch site is designated for paragliding and hang-gliding.

Culture and History

A memorial plaque for Jožef Ressel stands next to the forestry lodge in Predmeja. Predmeja is also home to a monument to water created by Marko Pogačnik; it is the only monument dedicated to this subject in Slovenia. A burial site in Predmeja commemorates 367 fallen partisans from the partisan units. The local residents erected the Mother Gorjanka Monument in 2001 to mark the 400th anniversary of the settlement of Gora.
