Srednja Kanomlja: Hotel, Route No. 5 and Natural Heritage

Srednja Kanomlja marks the beginning of Route No. 5: it starts at the fish farm in the village and is classified as an easy route. To reach the starting point, follow the main road along the Kanomljica for about 5 km from Spodnja Idrija.

Nature

The Kanomlja Valley includes, among others, Spodnja Kanomlja, Srednja Kanomlja and Gorenja Kanomlja. The Kanomljica and its tributary streams flow through this area; the watercourse is classified as natural heritage of national importance. Route No. 5 leads to the Klamer rock pools on the Kanomljica. After 1 km, you will also reach the Kanomeljske or Ovčjaške klavže.

Culture

The stops along the route include the Šturmajce farmstead, a preserved farm complex dating from the first half of the 20th century. At Šturmajce, Route No. 5 also allows visitors to see a farmhouse with frescoes from the same period. The mineral collection includes minerals, ores, fossils and rocks. It is located at Gorenja Kanomlja 44 and can be visited by prior arrangement.

At the Pr’ Ivaniš farmstead, a working traditional farm forge has been preserved. Apitherapy is available by prior arrangement at an apiary and a garden with honey plants. Rupnik Ciril Honey Products is based at Srednja Kanomlja 66. The annual Kanomlja village festival takes place in front of the old Kanomlja school in Srednja Kanomlja.

History

The Žličnik Monument in Srednja Kanomlja is designated as a monument to the victims of fascism. The monument to Franc Sedej is a pillar built of natural stone with a recessed inscription plaque made of grey marble. It stands on Mohoričev hrib, north of and 1.2 km below the Spodnji Belobrdar farmstead at Srednja Kanomlja 39.

The inscription on the monument to Franc Sedej states that the Italian army shot the 35-year-old farmer Franc Sedej on 6 May 1943. Another historical point of reference is the Šinkočeva House: on 10 December 1942, new fighters gathered there in Srednja Kanomlja and took the oath; the 2nd Trnovska četa was founded on that occasion.
