Vojsko: Hotels, Karst Plateau and Partisan Printing House

Vojsko is a sparsely populated Karst plateau in the Idrija Hills. The plateau is home to untouched high-altitude meadows rich in flowers and offering a wide variety of medicinal plants. As a result, landscape, open spaces and the distinctive forms of the Karst exist side by side in Vojsko.

Landscape

The Vojsko plateau stretches across the steep slopes of the Kanomljica and Idrijca rivers and offers views from Triglav to Snežnik. From the Hudournik viewpoint, the view extends across the Idrija Fault Zone to Most na Soči. From there, visitors can also see the Julian and Kamnik Alps, including Triglav.

Smrekova draga is part of the Golaki Forest Reserve and features an inverted distribution of vegetation. The Gačnik stream cascades over the Gačniško stopnišče, a series of fourteen waterfalls. The Gačnik Gorge features rapids, ravines and pools. Thus, different forms of forest, water and rugged landscape exist side by side within a small thematic area.

Culture

The Church of Saint Joseph in Vojsko is believed to have been completed in 1669. It has two side altars and a main altar dedicated to Saint Joseph. Its furnishings also include ceiling frescoes rediscovered in 1983 and a relief-style Stations of the Cross.

The Slovenija Partisan Printing House has been fully preserved and has been open to visitors as a cultural and historical monument since 1947. With the assistance of the attendant, visitors can print a commemorative sheet there. From Idrija, the Slovenija Partisan Printing House is most easily reached via a 14 km road to Vojsko; two paths lead to it from Vojsko.

The memorial at the cemetery in Vojščica commemorates 305 fighters who fell shortly before liberation.

Routes and winter

Route No. 4 starts at the Church of Saint Joseph in Vojsko and is an easy 26.5 km cycling route. In winter, Vojsko has cross-country ski trails through the rugged landscape of the plateau. Thus, both a specifically named cycling route and winter ski trails are part of the local routes.
