Lake Bohinj is Slovenia’s largest natural, permanently existing lake and is located in the heart of Triglav National Park. The lake is of tectonic origin. Several underground karst springs lie on the northern shore of Lake Bohinj; Govic is the best known of them.

Nature and Trails
The route around Lake Bohinj is just over 11 km long. It can be shortened by walking only along the northern or only along the southern shore.
Water
Boating is permitted on the entire lake, except in the bathing areas in Fužine Bay and in Ukanc. The entry and exit points include the southern side of the bridge at St. John the Baptist Church.
There are designated bathing areas at Lake Bohinj in Fužine Bay and in Ukanc; the aforementioned bathing area in Fužine Bay is one of them. In summer, the water warms up to 24 °C at the surface. ARSO monitors water quality in bathing water areas every 14 days during the bathing season from 15 June to 31 August.
A two-hour canoe trip on Lake Bohinj includes a tour around the lake. Lake Bohinj is suitable for first experiences with canoeing activities.
Boats
The one-way trip by panoramic boat between Ribčev Laz and Ukanc takes 30 minutes. The panoramic boat has two boarding points in Ribčevo Lazo and Ukanc. In addition, the two electric boats Zlatorog and Triglavska roža operate on Lake Bohinj between Ribčev Laz and Ukanc in both directions.
Culture
St. John the Baptist Church was built before the year 1300. Its oldest frescoes date from the 13th century. It is considered one of the outstanding examples of Slovenian medieval architecture.
Cycling Route and Regional Specialties
The Bohinj Cycling Route is fully paved and well signposted. It connects the Lower and Upper Bohinj Valleys. The Na Rju Bridge is an attractive stop along the Bohinj Cycling Route.
The International Wildflower Festival takes place every year in May and June at various locations in Bohinj. Mohant is a specialty from Bohinj and has a European designation of origin.
