Culture

Jereka is one of the villages in the Upper Bohinj Valley where the Otepanje custom is maintained. During this tradition, masked New Year singers go from house to house. In Jereka, Otepanje takes place on New Year's Eve, 31 December. Holding the tradition on New Year's Eve clearly places it within the period around the turn of the year.

The Church of Saint Margaret stands along the road on a hill before Jereka in the Upper Bohinj Valley. It is a high-quality Baroque church building with an older medieval layout, a medieval painted bell tower, and rich Renaissance and Baroque furnishings; the nave and presbytery have been preserved. The Church of Saint Margaret was proposed as a local cultural monument of architectural and artistic significance.

Nature and Trails

The ascent to Vodnikov razglednik can be undertaken from Jereka. It takes around a good hour with an elevation gain of 387 metres. The trailhead is at the bridge in Jereka; on the way to Koprivnik, the route runs directly below Vodnikov razglednik. Vodnikov razglednik lies at an elevation of 1,017 metres. From there, views extend across large parts of Bohinj and the surrounding Julian Alps mountain range. The combination of the approximate duration and elevation gain provides a concrete indication for planning your own time.

The historic trail from Jereka to Koprivnik was reinforced in the 18th century to allow the unobstructed transport of iron ore and charcoal from Pokljuka. In the stone of the trail from Jereka to Koprivnik, the ruts worn by wagon wheels are still visible. These ruts make the former use of the reinforced trail in the terrain comprehensible.

Juliana Trail

The sixth stage of the Juliana Trail also leads down through the forests and pastures of Pokljuka to Jereka in the Upper Bohinj Valley. From Jereka, it continues through Češnjica, Srednja vas and Studor to Stara Fužina. The places named mark the further course of this stage after the section through Pokljuka.

Also pay attention to the included services, individual price components, and booking and cancellation conditions. This makes it possible to compare the respective terms objectively, especially when there are several offers. The place name alone does not determine these specific details; the information provided by the respective hotel remains decisive. Before completing your booking, also check whether the stated conditions suit your planned occupancy and the selected period. For included services, it can make a difference whether they are included in the total price or charged separately. It is likewise worth checking deadlines, possible refunds and any other restrictions in the cancellation conditions. The specific conditions of the respective offer are decisive and can be checked on the offer page. This keeps the price, scope of services and conditions clearly separate even when different offer formats are used.
